Serfaus:
Tyrol’s sunniest holiday joy

Serfaus is a small Rhaeto Roman holiday villages in the middle of an ancient cultural landscape and offers a huge variety of holiday attractions. The name of the village derives from the term “supra fossas” which means “above the gorge” or “over the ditch”. This tells a lot about the unique location of Serfaus. About 500 meters above the valley of the upper Inntal at 1,400m there is the grand high plateau. “Sunny plateau” as it is called by the Tyroleans and this not without reasons. More than 2,000 sunny hours on average every year re normal. Nowhere in this country does the sun shine longer and more often.

At the back of the village you see the mountains of the Samnaun group which protects the village from bad weather. Southwards the plateau is open and welcomes the sun and enjoyable air flows. The climate can be compared to the one in the Engadin and the northern part of South Tyrol. Because of the fact that the road to Serfaus ends in Serfaus there is no get through traffic. Traffic is a foreign word in the sunniest holiday region. Serfaus is on top a village and in the underground a train. The only village subway in Europe is reason for the fact that Serfaus is a picturesque village for its guests without traffic.

“The piece of nature” which Serfaus wants to be, is characterized by many ancient wooden houses and the marked village church (the cemetery is one of the most beautiful of Tyrol) and of course by the marvellous horizon which the mountains always produce anew. As a summer holiday village Serfaus offers everything for a perfect mountain experience. More than 100km of hiking and tour paths, botanic hiking, theme hiking tours and mountain sports programme. You will not be missing a swimming pool or tennis and riding facilities. The offer for families with children is especially big. Serfaus is also called “Family Tyrolean Village”. This certificate is given by Tyrol only to special villages and this shows parents that their children are well protected and cared for.

In winter Serfaus is the most attractive destination in the Alps because of the combined skiing region Seraus-Fiss-Ladis. This region in the upper Inntal (valley) is considered the big stage of winter tourism and defined by the term “Tyrol’s ski dimension” at about 3,000 m above the sea level. It offers a huge variety and a perfect programme when compared to other skiing regions. More than 175km of slopes and 53 cable cars and lifts of the most modern comfort, 111km of ski trails, 10km toboggan runs…are there to be used. The only thing to be criticised it the name “ski dimension” Its suggests that the stage of winter is only there for skiers which is not true. There are numerous free ride slopes and two fun parks for snowboarders. Fans of winter fun sports will be served perfectly. And that Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is a perfect winter children’s paradise is well known. Just think of the “Murmli Park” or the “Family-Cross-Area” at the Plansegg.
